Tēna koutou e te whānau,
What an awesome term we have had at Arataki School. When I was reflecting on the term, we have achieved so much. There are many celebrations. I want to recognise our awesome team of children who represented Arataki School at the the STEAM-ED interschool robotics competition on Friday 21st June (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts & Mathematics Education). The following children represented our school: Arshpreet, Deejay Lee, Iorina, Angus, Zoey and Sarah. The children worked in teams of 2 completing difficult tasks within a 3 minute time limit. Our children excelled, taking out 1st place, 3rd place and 5th place.
Matariki Breakfast
Thank you to all of the whānau who joined us for breakfast on Thursday last week to celebrate Matariki. Matariki acknowledges the Māori new year and is a time to reflect on the past year, celebrate the present, and plan for the year ahead. It was such an amazing vibe in our school. It was great to see our community joining together, having kōrero and connecting with each other. A big thank you to our Friends of School for your organisation and help and to our Arataki School staff.
Keeping Ourselves Safe:
Next term, we are teaching the New Zealand Police Education Programme - Keeping Ourselves Safe. Keeping Ourselves Safe will be taught school wide for two weeks from Monday 29th July until Friday 9th August. Keeping Ourselves Safe is a comprehensive child abuse prevention programme for schools. Its purpose is to:
- teach students a range of safe practices that they can use when interacting with other people, both online and face to face
- teach students how to recognise the difference between healthy and unhealthy relationships, and encourage students who have been or are being abused to seek help
- prevent abuse by making parents and teachers more aware of their responsibilities to help students avoid abuse.
On Wednesday 24th July, we have our local Police Educator - Dennis Bidois running an information session for parents in the staffroom from 2:00pm - 2:45pm to talk with you about the content of the programme and for you to ask any questions you may have. If you are unable to make the meeting, teachers will also be sharing information with parents via HERO.
Fruit and Vegetable Boxes
One of our parents Alex, had a business where whānau could order Fruit and Vege boxes. A portion of the sales was given as a donation to the school. Unfortunately, Alex is no longer able to offer the Fruit and Vegetable box service. Thank you Alex for having offered this service to our kura.
Have an amazing holiday with your children and we look forward to seeing you all back at school on Monday 22nd July.
Ngā mihi nui
