Tēna koutou e te iwi,

The end of the term is nearly with us and what a busy fun time our tamariki are having. Classes have had lots of trips out and celebrations.

A special mention to our Friends of the School for last night, what a fantastic evening for our community. A lot of behind the scenes planning and organisation takes place for an event like this. So a big thank you to the FOS team, kaiako and tamariki who made the event possible.

A big congratulations to our Senior tamariki who participated in the Mount Cluster Athletics and those who made it through to the Western Bay of Plenty Clusters.

Please check in the ‘News and Events’ below for the video of the unveiling of our beautiful poupou and pop in and view it in our entrance way. This was a very special event attended by staff, iwi and tamariki. We are very fortunate to have Mike Carswell on our staff who carved and gifted the poupou to Arataki.

Thank you Mike.

Thank you to all our community who attended our School Identity Hui, we really appreciate your commitment and contribution to our draft statement. This work will continue in 2024.

I look forward to seeing as many of you as possible at our 2023 Te Rā Tuku Taonga Prizegiving on Friday 8 December, 9.30am.

Kia pai ngā rā whakatā.

Ngā mihi,

Shelley Craig, Acting Principal

NEWS AND EVENTS

Te Whakatau o te Poupou o Mauao

On Friday, 24 November, we blessed and unveiled a beautiful poupou, depicting the story of Mauao.  This is a very special poupou, as it is carved by one of our kaiako, Matua Mike and is his koha to the kura.  Mike has been training in whakairo (carving) for the last 4 years and has just graduated receiving his Maunga Kura Toi, Bachelor of Māori Arts.

Tēnei te tuku mihi i a koe, Matua Mike.  Te kino kē hoki o tōu mahi whakairo! Te ataahua hoki o te taonga nei.

Time capsule

Last week, we closed our time capsule for the second time. This time with additional contributions from each class. The aim was to share who we are today. The time capsule was originally sealed on 2 November, 2013 to commemorate the school’s 50th Jubilee.  It is now going to hang in the library until it’s next opening, perhaps that will be its originally intended date in 2038.  How old will we be then! Imagine the changes will happen in the next 15 years.

Enjoy the slideshow to see each class's contribution.
