Kia ora whānau

Term 1 is winding down,  another extraordinary chapter …this one's plot was all about how we navigated the change in the Government's response to Covid.

While it has been uncertain I have appreciated the opportunity to operate as normally as we can and not return to lockdown.

It has been 7 weeks since our first reported case of Covid at Arataki School. During those 7 weeks our vocabulary has been full of RAT's, isolation, testing, symptoms, isolation again…also during those 7 weeks all of our people have been outstanding. The support, kindness and understanding from you, our whānau has been unwavering.

Our tamariki have shown resilience, courage and positivity.

And nothing has been too much for our team here, their focus has been on our children and looking after each other.

What a place to belong!

I am hopeful that we will keep inching towards normality…exciting for us to hold our first School Hui this Friday 8 April at 11:30am - come join us under the main sunshade.

Fingers crossed that next term we will be able to start with our Pohiri…keep an eye out over the break for more information.

A reminder that we have a Teacher's Only Day on Thursday 14th April. This is the Thursday before Good Friday. See below for more information.

Have a safe and happy Easter break. Look forward to seeing you back on Monday 2 May.

Ngā Mihi

News from the Sports Desk

Kia ora, my name is Kendall Forrester-Moore, I am your new Sports Coordinator.

I have lived here, in the beautiful Bay of Plenty, all of my life and was lucky enough to have had my school days here at Arataki School. I've played sports from the age of 5 through to College, including basketball, hockey, netball and volleyball.  My passion for sports saw me earning a Degree in Sport and Recreation so that I can work with kids to help bring the best out of them and our School. I am so excited to see what opportunities this year brings for us and our tamariki.

Coaches, managers, whānau - if you are watching our kids in action we would love photos and short blurb to showcase. We would also love to know about our stars out there who may not be part of our school sports teams but are achieving at a high level or getting in there and giving things a go.  Like Carter Lowe, check out the story below….

Pre-Loved Uniform

Ngā mihi nui to our whānau who donate their pre loved uniforms to the school.  These are then sold from the school office for $5-$15 with the money used as a donation toward school projects, such as the soon to come sandpit.

We are currently low on stock of polo shirts, shorts and skorts. Any donations gratefully received.

Also, if you have any old dark coloured shorts, skorts or skirts in good condition, these would help in our sickbay supplies.

Community Notices

Kia ora, My name is Kate. I’m currently relieving at Mount Intermediate and have started up Illuminate; an after school safe space for YR 5-8 (starting term 2).

I know we all place value on developing positive adolescent mental health, so the afternoon is a technology-free mix of yoga/mindfulness, art/craft and journaling.

Melissa, Principal of MMI, has kindly let us run on-site at Mount Intermediate and we hope to strengthen tuakana-teina bonds with MMI and Arataki students.
