The past fortnight has been packed with learning, achievements, and fantastic extra-curricular events across our school community.

Sporting & Performing Arts Highlights

• WBOP Rugby 7s: An awesome team of Year 5 & 6 students represented Arataki School with pride at the Western Bay of Plenty tournament. They had some wins and some losses, but they played hard.
• Tauranga Primary Schools’ Choir Festival: On Tuesday night, our 25-strong school choir performed at Baycourt Theater under this year’s theme, Big Dreams. They sang exceptionally well and represented ATK with real flair.

PTA Quiz Night Success A massive thank you to our hardworking ATK PTA for organizing an incredible Quiz Night on Saturday. Thanks to their effort and the generous sponsorship of local businesses who donated vouchers, auction items, and raffle prizes, we raised an extraordinary $20,800 for our school!

Lunchtime Action at ATK Our playground during break times is a buzzing hive of energy. Whaea Ziggy coordinates our Physical Activity Leaders (PALs)—senior students who lead sports and games for others. Yesterday's lineup included basketball, netball, a giant game of capture the flag, and the parachute. For those looking for quiet focus, Whaea Rachel hosts Chess and Lego Club in Room 15. Mrs Davies in Room 8 also hosts a drawing club on Tuesdays.

A couple of calls for help:

• Secondhand Uniform - Have your tamariki outgrown their uniform?  Please consider donating them back to the kura.  These uniform donations are sold to our whanau for donations of $5 and used for our tamariki who may need them. Any money raised is used for resources for our classrooms. 
• Farmer Wanting Pig Feed - Do we have any whānau that would like to regularly pick up our food scraps for their animals? Please email office@arataki.school.nz and we will be in touch.

Upcoming Dates & Events

• Te Wiki o te Reo Māori (Sept 14–18): A week dedicated to celebrating te reo, culminating in our Whole School Hāngī on Friday, September 18th. (Please see the separate notice that was sent home on Monday for further details).
• ATK’s Got Talent: Happening on Wednesday, Thursday & Friday lunchtime during the final week of term. This event is not judged, but is an opportunity for our tamariki to share their talents with their peers. See Miss Mac for entry forms.
• Grandparents' Day: Selected classrooms will be hosting grandparents for classroom visits on Tuesday 22nd September (details to follow from classroom teachers).

Finally, to all of our Pāpā, Dads, Step-Dads, Koro, Granddads and those of you stepping into a Dad’s role, we hope you have a wonderful Father's Day this coming Sunday!

Supertooth Mission in Hopukiore

Health Curriculum - Caring for my body by keeping myself clean

As part of our Health Curriculum focus, and learning about Taha Tinana (our physical wellbeing), Hopukiore are on a 'Supertooth Mission- Brush, Brush, Brush!'

Our Arataki Dental Clinicians, Kay and Pat, came into our classrooms to chat to us about the importance of looking after our teeth. In Room 15 and 16 we had Kay who came prepared with lots of things to talk to us about and show us. All of our tamariki were interested and engaged, with some thoughtful questions asked too. 

There was lots of interesting new learning around this topic and we were especially surprised when we found out the sugar content in lots of common drinks and read the food labels on popular snack foods!

Some super tips to look after our teeth are:

-Keep these kinds of foods and drinks as 'treats' we sometimes have; Brush 2 times a day; Brush for 2 whole minutes; Clean every single tooth; Brush your tongue too; Get a new brush every 3 months (or when the bristles are looking 'shabby').

Should They Stay Home?

With so many bugs around the Ministry of Health have sent through some advice on when tamariki should stay home.

COMMUNITY NOTICES

FREE Triple P Online Programmes

The following Triple P Online programmes are currently available free to families across New Zealand:

• Triple P Baby – supports whānau of newborns/infants
• Family Transitions – supports whānau going through divorce or separation
• Stepping Stones – supports whānau of tamariki with disability/neurodiversity (Autism, ADHD)
• Triple P 0-12 – supports whānau of tamariki aged 0-12 years old

These programmes are self-directed modules that parents/caregivers can complete at their own pace.  Whānau just need to sign up via the Triple P website https://www.triplep-parenting.net.nz/nz/parenting-courses/triple-p-online/

The number of registrations available are limited and works on a first come, first serve basis but we are excited that the ministry has been able to provide whānau access to programmes irrespective of where they live and of topics that are so imperative in today’s social climate, especially Family Transitions and Stepping Stones.

Please note that there are other online programmes listed on the Triple P website but only the ones above are currently being offered free of charge.  More information about the programmes area available via the Triple P website.

Have your tamariki grown out of their uniforms? 

Please consider donating them back to the kura.  These uniform donations are:
