Tēnā koutou e te iwi,

Celebrating Matariki Together: A Beautiful Morning of Community

What a beautiful morning we shared as a school community for our annual Matariki Breakfast! It was truly heartening to see our hall filled with so many smiling faces, warmth, and the spirit of togetherness as we gathered to mark the rising of the Matariki star cluster and the beginning of the Māori New Year.

A Massive Thank You!

An event like this doesn't just happen, and we have some incredible people to thank for making it such a success:

  • Our Arataki PTA: A massive, heartfelt thank you goes to our dedicated ATK PTA. Thank you for your incredible organisation, your early morning start, and for providing such a delicious spread of food to fuel our whānau.
  • Our Whanau: Thank you to every single parent, caregiver, grandparent, and sibling who woke up early to join us. Seeing our community connect, chat, and share a meal together is exactly what Matariki is all about—reflecting on the past, celebrating the present, and looking forward to the future together.

The morning was made even more special as we finished our celebration with beautiful waiata. Hearing the voices of our tamariki was the perfect, uplifting way to officially welcome the New Year. Thank you all for making this Matariki celebration so memorable.

Mānawatia a Matariki! (Celebrate Matariki!)

Whānau Learning Conferences & Reporting to Parents

We have created a brief video clip to explain the recent changes to how we report your child's progress to you. This video also provides insight into the refreshed curriculum that our teachers are now delivering in the classrooms.

Please take a few minutes to watch this so you are up-to-date with our new reporting format.

📊 Mid-Year Reports Published on Monday

A reminder that your child's mid-year report will be published on HERO this coming Monday at 3pm. Please log in to your account to view their achievements and areas for growth.

💬 Book Your Whānau Learning Conferences

Whānau Learning Conferences are a fantastic opportunity to discuss your child’s report and progress. Bookings are now open:

  • How to book: Please book your appointment time online via the HERO app.
  • Need help? If you are having any trouble booking your appointment, please contact the school office team and they will happily assist you.

⚠️  Reminder -  Wednesday Schedule & Early Pick-Up (12:30 PM)

To allow our teaching staff to begin Whānau Learning Conferences at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, we have a slightly altered schedule for the afternoon:

  • Early Collection (If Possible): If you are able to collect your child from school at 12:30 PM on Wednesday, it would be greatly appreciated.
  • If You Cannot Collect Early: Don't worry! If you cannot pick your child up at 12:30 PM, they are welcome to remain at school. They will be in the school hall taught by our non-classroom teaching staff until the normal 2:45pm bell.

Thank you so much for your ongoing partnership in your child's learning journey. We look forward to seeing you at the conferences!

Feet First - Wednesday Challenge

We are incredibly proud of our amazing Arataki tamariki who stepped up for our "Wednesday Challenge" morning on June the 10th! It was fantastic to see such a massive turnout of tamariki arriving "feet first" to kura—whether they were walking, scootering, skating, biking, or choosing to carpool. By choosing active and sustainable ways to get to school, our tamariki didn't just kick start their day with great energy, they also showed wonderful care for our environment and hāpori (community). Keep up the awesome effort, everyone!

Our spot prize winners were:

Yoyo's: Ryder and Luella

Hacky sack's: Sally, Ted, Lukas, Eden and Niko

Backpacks: Calvin and Te Waiti

Baywave vouchers: Heaven and Joshua

Have an amazing weekend with your whānau.

Ngā mihi nui, Vicki Hiini - Tumuaki
