How fantastic were our tamariki last week performing our production ‘Poseidon’s tale of the deep blue sea’. I was so incredibly proud of their performance and how quickly our tamariki learned their class dance routines, the waiata for the production. Our actors were amazing, memorising their lines, and having a very polished performance.
The production was an opportunity to bring all of our school community together, to achieve a common goal of putting on a live theatre performance for our whānau. Giving children the opportunity to perform at Baycourt theatre added to how special our first production was.
I am incredibly grateful to our staff, for going above and beyond to pull the show together. Thank you to Sue Taylor who led the process during term 1, and to Kate Barker for her leadership, communication and organisation this term. We could never have achieved our performance in such a short time - 3.5 weeks without Patrice from Gobsmacked productions. She is an incredibly talented lady, who expertly guided us through the process.
Thank you to our whānau for attending and supporting us throughout the week. Thank you all for your positive feedback and kind comments. They are much appreciated.
Reporting to parents information afternoon
Earlier in the term, we hosted an information session for parents about our mid-term reports and the new reporting requirements. The whanau that attended found this session incredibly informative. We will repeat the session again, on Wednesday 10th June at 3pm. We will also make a recording of the session.
Health notice
We have noticed a few absences due to sore throats and we have a few children confirmed with strep throat. If your child is complaining of a sore throat, please take them to have it checked. Here is a link to a fact sheet from Te Whatu Ora in regards to strep throat.

Tuakana Cross Country
Next week, on Wednesday 27th May we have our Tuakana Cross Country (year 4-6) at the beach. This year, the Arataki Friends of School are having a fundraising sausage sizzle on cross country day. Sausages can be pre-ordered in class on Tuesday or Wednesday morning at $2.50 per sausage.
Staffing Update
Whaea Georgia Kimpton - teacher in Room 6, has resigned from her position at Arataki School. Her final day of teaching Room 6 will be Thursday 2nd July. Ngawaiata McAllister has been appointed to take over from Georgia.
And for a bit of fun on a Friday, Hikurangi hosted an amazing Hui-a-kura today. Thanks Whaea Kirsty, Whaea Janelle and Miss Frost for my make-up makeover. And don't Whaea Shelley and Matua Brian look amazing too.
