Kia ora e te iwi,

Wow, what an awesome fundraiser our BINGO night was on Saturday night. Thank you so much to our sponsors who donated a range of amazing items that we were able to use as silent auction items, live auction items and prizes for BINGO winners. A big thank you to the parents and staff who are part of our Arataki Friends of School for their organisation of the event. We fundraised just over $13,000.00. The funds raised are going towards extending our playground next to the field. We will be installing a range of basket swings and log swings. This has been arequest from the children. The sum that we are aiming to raise for the playground extension is $60,000.00. Thank you so much for your support of our fund raising events.

Choir

Congratulations to our talented students who performed as part of the Arataki School choir on Monday evening at the Tauranga Primary Schools music festival. Your singing of the 80’s hit ‘walking on sunshine’ was amazing. The theme for the music festival this year was Sunny Days.

Arataki has talent

A group of children from Room 8 have requested that we have a talent show. In week 10, the last week of the term, at lunchtime, we will be hosting ‘Arataki has Talent’. This will be on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday (16, 17, 18 September) lunchtime (12.30-1pm) in the school hall. The children must practise their talent item outside of class time. Registration forms are available from Miss Mac in Room 1. After registrations, we will work out what day each child will be performing and your child will be given a notice of the day of their performance. Items are to be a maximum of 2 minutes in length. There will be no prizes, rather this is a time for children to share their talents with an audience. I am looking forward to it.

Kiwi Kids Exams

Congratulations to our students who completed the Kiwi Kids exams. These were optional exams in English, Maths and Science that students were able to participate in. Congratulations to Miller Reid for scoring in the top 4% in the Maths exam.  He received an excellence endorsement. Congratulations to our other students who received merits and achieved results.

Hangi

On Friday 12th September we are holding our whole school Hangi. Thank you so much to our whānau who have returned their donation/koha notice. Your donation makes this event possible.  Our Hangi launches Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori (Māori language) and gives all tamariki the opportunity to be involved in preparing a Hangi. Kai preparation will be on Thursday 11th September. We are still looking for helpers on both Thursday with kai preparation and Friday with serving the hangi to our tamariki. If you are available to help, please let the office know by email office@arataki.school.nz or dropping in.

Term 4 Sports registrations

A reminder that our Term 4 sports registrations are live. Unfortunately, it is a first in first served basis for the touch modules. The Pāpāmoa touch competition is extremely popular and we were only able to register 5 teams. We have other term 4 sports available so please make sure that you register your children asap if you are wanting them to play in a sport. For more details see ‘From the Sports Desk’ below.

Finally, the Takuira-Mita whānau who recently lost their home in a house fire wanted to pass on their heartfelt thanks to our school community. They were overwhelmed with the generosity from our school community and the donations they received.

Kia pai to rā whakatā!

Ngā mihi nunui,

Vicki Hiini

Tumuaki / Principal

It was also a thrill to see Mea and Sarah doing there solos with the full choir. they killed it. Ka wane ki ngā kōtiro.

A big NGĀ MIHI to Whaea Rachal for her dedication to supporting our choir to share their musical talents so brightly on stage.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us for our recent Bingo Night at Omanu Golf Club. The evening was filled with fun, laughter and a wonderful sense of community spirit. We are proud to share that the event was a great success, raising a total profit of $13,304.16 These funds help us take another big step towards our fundraising goal for the year - upgrading our school play spaces, including the addition of new swings.

Congratulations to all of our Live Auction and Silent Auction winners! Our Silent Auction winners have been notified, and we hope you enjoy your prizes. A big round of applause also goes to everyone who supported our week-long raffle. The winners are outlined in the picture attached – well done to each of you!

We are especially excited for our Principal for the Day winners, who will be taking charge of Arataki School on Thursday, 4th September, and our Lunch Date winners, who will enjoy their special trip in the school van to McDonald’s on Friday, 5th September. We can’t wait to see the smiles on their faces!

This event would not have been possible without the incredible support of our sponsors and community. Make sure you have a scan of these local legends below and please support those who support us! Ukulele & Singing Lessons with WHERIKO

Inspiring creativity, building confidence, and sparking a lifelong love of music in students.

Based in Tauranga, I offer fun, engaging ukulele and singing lessons that help tamariki grow in confidence, develop musical skills, and express themselves in a positive, creative way. My lessons are tailored to suit all levels. I create a focused and fun environment where each child feels supported and excited to learn.

Whether your tamaiti has dreams of the stage or just want to try something new, these lessons will:

• Build musical foundations in rhythm, pitch, and performance

• Encourage teamwork and listening skills

• Boost self-esteem and resilience through performance

• Give students opportunities to showcase their talents at school events

You may even spot me gigging around Tauranga.

I'm excited to add another creative outlet for kids at Arataki School.
