Kia ora e te iwi,

Welcome to term 3.

Welcome to all of the new tamariki (students) and whānau (families) who have joined our kura (school) this term.

This is an exciting term for Arataki School as we launch the Mitey programme as part of our teaching and learning programme. Mitey is a research based learning programme that has been created by the Sir John Kirwan Foundation to teach children about positive mental health. Mitey has been operating in Auckland schools and has now moved to supporting schools in the Bay of Plenty. We are one of seven schools in the Bay to implement the programme.

The Mitey programme is focussed on a mana model. The teachings of Mitey easily integrate into other curriculum areas and the programme is stepped in development from Year 1-8.  Key aspects of the programme include teaching children about Identity, Well being, Communication and Relationships, Social action and health promotion. The Mitey programme compliments our Positive Culture for Learning focus.

This term on Wednesday 13th August we are hosting two information sessions for whānau on how we teach structured literacy at school. This includes how we teach the children to read and spell. These sessions are designed to provide you with information about how we teach the children and how you can help your child at home with their reading and spelling. Both sessions will be hosted in the staffroom. Further details are included in this newsletter.

Term 3 is going to be another busy term. We have teams going on trips, children representing Arataki School at various sporting events, our Choir performance at Baycourt and children beginning to prepare for Pasifika in the Bay and Ra Whakangahau Kapa Haka competitions in term 4.

Our Friends of School are busily preparing for our upcoming BINGO night fundraiser at Omanu Golf Club. Thank you to all of our whānau for your support. The event sold out in one week! All funds raised are going towards the improvement of our school playground & environment. Keep an eye out in the notices for the silent auction items. There are some really amazing auction items being donated.

The Board is continuing its work on the schools strategic plan. We would greatly appreciate your whakaaro/thoughts for the Arataki Strategic Plan.  Please click the link below for the quick survey.

ATK here Everyday

Another term of celebrating our tamariki here at kura.  We have already had over 200 tamariki acknowedged for their fab attendance.

Last term we had a great end of term pizza party and mufti day for our 100% attenders.  We loved seeing the excitement of these tamariki and all getting together.  This was a new intiative for ATK to include more of our amazing tamariki.

PRE LOVED UNIFORMS

Needing a few pieces of uniform.  Come and see our pre-loved uniforms at the school office.

Have your tamariki grown out of their uniforms? We are especially in need of Polo Shirts if you have any spare.

Please consider donating them back to the kura.  These uniform donations are:

  • sold to our whanau for donations of $5. The money raised is used for resources for our classrooms.
  • used for our tamariki who may need them.

These donations are gratefully received at the school office.

Please remember to enrol your preschoolers as early as you can. This helps us to get prepared for their arrival.
